Sunday 3 September is the start of Queensland Child Protection Week (3-9 September 2017), and it is an opportunity for us all in the community to connect and think about how we can work together to keep all children safe and feeling protected. 

The aim of Child Protection Week is to raise the profile of all issues connected with child protection, including child abuse prevention, education, service provision and support for children, young people and families.

We can all play a part in protecting children and to improve their future by building stronger communities and safer environments. Volunteering Queensland is helping by supporting community led support programs and volunteering opportunities. Learn what volunteer services are available so you can support others in need. 


Some of the opportunities currently available are:

Family Support Worker

for North Brisbane Children's Contact Service

Facilitate supervised visitation and assist with the changeover with the child/ren, youth and the parent they do not live with.


Pyjama Angel

for The Pyjama Foundation Townsville

Visit a child for one hour per week to read, play educational games and activities. Mentor based promotion literacy and numeracy to children in foster care. Make a difference in a child's life.


Executive Officer

for Good Samaritan Housing Brisbane

Good Samaritan Housing is a small Brisbane not-for-profit organisation whose mission is to break the cycle of homelessness in the lives of women and children. The program is currently based on the northside of Brisbane and relies heavily on volunteer support with one employed staff member.


School Breakfast Mentor

for YMCA Social Impact, Springwood

The YMCA School's Breakfast Program aims to provide disadvantaged children who miss out on breakfast with a free nutritious breakfast to start their day. Adult role models are required as breakfast mentors and involve being part of a team to prepare and serve breakfast to school children at Springwood Central State School (Primary School).
