World Cancer Day, Sunday 4 February 2018

On 4 February every year the world unites for World Cancer Day. Taking on the global theme ‘We can. I can’, World Cancer Day will explore how everyone can act as a collective or as an individual to reduce the impact and burden of cancer on individuals, families and communities.

The day was designated by the United Nations and the World Health Organisation to commemorate all the efforts made by governmental and nongovernmental health organisations towards the fight against cancer and its treatments.

The day is a chance to reflect on what you can do to help support and promote the fight against cancer. The day is a key opportunity for education and raising awareness to encourage its prevention and the importance of early detection. Join us in this campaign by holding a fundraising event or volunteering at one of the many opportunities available.

"We must do more to end the many tragedies that cancer inflicts. About one third of cancers can be prevented, while others are curable if diagnosed and treated early. And even when cancer is advanced, patients should benefit from palliative care”.  – Ban Ki-moon
