Volunteering this Christmas

Christmas is often a time to celebrate with family and friends, however many other families and individuals are often doing it tough and may need that extra support during this festive season.

Volunteering Queensland and other volunteer-involving organisations alike are inundated with requests to help in the lead-up to Christmas. Volunteering opportunities may vary from retail assistants, food drives to gift wrapping. See current opportunities below.

Other ways you can assist is to donate non-perishable food items, toys, books and other gifts to your local charity.

If you don’t have the time to volunteer, why not take the time to check in with your neighbours? Many people, especially the elderly spend Christmas alone, so a friendly face can make a world of difference.

Volunteering opportunities:

Christmas Shop Assistant, Sunshine Coast

for Lifeline

If you enjoy interacting with local people and tourists from various locations then this would suit you well. You will be helping their shop staff to sort and fill shelves and assisting customers to find items to purchase. This is a fun way to spend time with others and contribute not only to your community but to supporting Lifeline's Crisis Hotline and Counselling services.

Christmas Gift Wrapping, Westfield Garden City

for Multicap

They’re looking for Santa’s Helpers to assist with gift wrapping this festive season. All funds raised for Multicap will support people with disabilities across Queensland and northern New South Wales.

Christmas Gift Wrapping, Gold Coast Harbour Town

for Bravehearts

They need some amazing volunteers to help raise funds (and Christmas cheer) this December. All funds raised for Bravehearts will support their work creating a positive difference in protecting everyone's children.

Mayor's Christmas Tree Appeal, Townsville

for Townsville City Council

The Mayor's Christmas Tree Appeal needs volunteers to help collect donations at Willows Shopping Centre. The Appeal has been assisting thousands of local families and individuals in need for almost 25 years.

Bayside Carols Event Coordinators

for Queensland Services Heritage Band Association

Bayside Carols is a favourite Christmas tradition for families in the Wynnum-Manly each year. If you are an organised person with good communication skills who loves Christmas Carols, they want your help to ensure this year’s event is another success.
