Chantelle is a 19 year old Year 12 student who is graduating from Parklands Christian College this November. Chantelle has very much enjoyed completing her CHC24015 Certificate II in Active volunteering and has a very impressive list of volunteering activities that she has undertaken this year.
Chantelle has worked for Able Care Australia (Caddies) on a weekly basis all year, where she has loved baking cakes, muffins and biscuits. She has also undertaken other cooking for local elderly residents and has successfully looked after the front desk at Caddies where she completed office work.
Other volunteering opportunities that Chantelle has been involved with include the Animal Welfare League, assisting prep students with their homework and being a part of the hospitality class at school. The hospitality class has catered for the following events, mostly in their own time:
- School musical for 200 people
- Chaplaincy dinner for 120 people
- Cambodia Missions fundraising dinner for 100 people
- World Teachers Day for 50 people
- Teachers “Lunch in a Box” for 25 people
The best part of volunteering according to Chantelle is that it’s fun, you get to meet new people and that you can bake and cook! Chantelle believes that volunteering is good for young people as they can learn new skills that will help them when they enter the workforce. New skills Chantelle has learnt includes new cooking techniques, baking and kitchen skills, how to confidently serve customers and also office and communication skills.
Chantelle will happily continue to volunteer with Caddies next year and is looking forward to applying for part-time work in the hospitality industry in 2016. Well done Chantelle - we wish you every success in your future and we hope you have a great school formal (topped off with your sparkly beautifully manicured nails!).
