Volunteering Queensland is proud to bring Rob Jackson from the UK to Brisbane. Local volunteer managers will benefit from his vast experience in volunteer management.

This event is held in recognition of International Volunteer Managers Day.


Meet the expert:

Rob Jackson

Rob has written, spoken and trained on volunteer program management internationally for over twenty years. He has co-authored two books on volunteerism as well as contributing dozens of articles to a wide range of publications online and offline.

Rob is an active volunteer, including serving as a member of the editorial team for the international volunteerism journal, e-volunteerism.com.

Previous to founding Rob Jackson Consulting Ltd, Rob worked with Volunteering England, first as Regional Volunteering Development Manager then as Director of Development and Innovation. During this time Rob served on the organisation's senior management team with responsibility for a wide range of development projects in: health and social care; sport; employer-supported volunteering; grant making and funding; student volunteering; the strategic development of volunteering infrastructure; customer service; and, coordinating fundraising support for Volunteering England.

Rob also led and implemented a successful merger between Volunteering England and Student Volunteering England in 1997, led the secretariat for the ground-breaking Volunteer Rights Inquiry and secured the £1.2m contract to deliver the modernising volunteering national support service for Capacitybuilders.

Rob also founded the UK’s 1st internet networking resource UKVPMs, dedicated to British Volunteer Program Managers, with over 1,300 members.

Workshop 1: Understanding & engaging 21st century volunteers

This session will look at some of the key ways in which society is changing and how these changes affect volunteerism. We will also discuss what leaders of volunteers can do to update their practices to accommodate these changes, further enhancing their engagement and retention of 21st century volunteers.

The social media revolution is here. How can we use social media to enhance our work with volunteers? How can we keep up with the endless change and, even better, get ahead of the curve? This workshop will provide some answers, looking at what social media is and how it can be used to recruit new volunteers and communicate with our current teams. Whether it's a mystery to you or you want to share your experience, this session will challenge, inspire and enthuse you to take action and go social.
