VQ News supports over 300 member organisations | Get involved in volunteering!

Welcome to the first edition in our 40th Anniversary year!  As the state's peak body representing the amazing work of each and every volunteer in our State, we are continuously humbled by the stories of good people everywhere.

Each one of us either is or knows a volunteer.   It could be that you coach your son's cricket team, or you sit on a committee.    It could be that you work next to someone who is a corporate volunteer sharing skills with others.   Or perhaps you help run an organisation spreading hope in your community.    Make sure you say thank you to someone you know by completing a nomination for a Queensland Volunteering Award before March 9.

In our 40th Anniversary year, we will continue to help you get the most out of your valued volunteers.  Join us for events, training, networking, research, advocacy or simply tap in to our huge network of new volunteers to grow your organisation.  Make 2023 the year you did yourself a favour - contact us to assist with your organisation's volunteering needs.

My Governance Journey - Launch and Live Demo

Life just got a little easier for the local volunteers who keep our community organisations running.  To help, Volunteering Queensland is about to launch its new online tool: My Governance Journey.

It’s a plain English guide to what you need to know when you join a Committee or Board and points people to the best available resources depending on where they are on their journey as a Governance member.

Please join Volunteering Queensland in launching this web tool through a lunchbox webinar on Thursday 9 February 2023 at 12.00pm.  You will see a live demonstration of the web tool, followed by a question and answer session.

My Governance Journey has been designed to help you enjoy the experience of volunteering in a governance role in an organisation that means something to you.

Check it out when it launches on the website next Monday!

RioVolunteers write letters to combat loneliness

Multiple Rio Tinto employees volunteered their time over the days leading up to Christmas through RioVolunteers Corporate Volunteering Program in partnership with Volunteering Queensland.

During December, corporate teams volunteered their time to wrap customer’s presents, in return for a small donation, at Arana Hills shopping centre to raise money on behalf of Ronald McDonald House.  In their spare time, the RioVolunteers wrote personal letters to residents of Infin8 Care Ipswich.

“We know that there are many of our senior Australia residents that are affected by social isolation and loneliness. That’s where the idea came to have our RioVolunteers write personal letters to them” says Ariane Knowles, Corporate Engagement Officer at Volunteering Queensland.

“Letter writing can be seen as a gift because someone has taken his/her time to write and think and express love.”   Soraya Diase Coffelt
