We understand that caring for loved ones is an important and rewarding job, but it can also be time consuming and challenging. At Anglicare, we offer support to carers too! Our respite care is a chance for both carers and loved ones to recharge and to maintain this essential service, we require the support of volunteers.

Our Killara Place Respite Centre in Cleveland is currently looking for a volunteer Kitchen Assistant to work with our paid staff, to assist with meal preparation and service. Working under the guidance of the Chef/Cook, the volunteer will help with getting meals ready, serving morning tea and keeping the kitchen and dining areas clean and sparkling!

To be successful you will need:

• An interest in cooking and food preparation - previous experience in a commercial kitchen or catering facility would be beneficial
• Experience in hospitality service, food handling and ability to make a great cuppa!
• An understanding of Food Safety and Hygiene Guidelines and a commitment to keeping the workplace safe, clean and tidy
• Comfortable standing for long periods and working with minimal supervision
• The motivation to make a difference in other people’s lives
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to relate to different ages and cultures
• A patient, friendly and mature attitude that shows respect, care and courtesy towards others

Other requirements include:

• Availability – at least one shift (4 hours) per week between 8.30am and 1.30pm, Monday - Friday
• Consistency and reliability – willing to commit to an ongoing basis for at least 6 months
• Confidentiality – this is critical to us and you will need to sign a Role Description which includes a confidentiality agreement
• Two (2) referees – who are not relatives and can vouch for your character and interaction in the community (ie. Work Colleague, Long Term Family Friend, Community Leader, Doctor or other Professional)
• National Police Clearance – we organise and pay for this if you don’t already have one
