Volunteering opportunities in Australia are endless!

There are many opportunities you could get involved in whilst studying here. You can volunteer in your field of study, your area of expertise or in a completely new area to learn new skills. Areas to volunteer in can include: admin, marketing, arts, advocacy, conservation, education, retail, health, sports, welfare, working with animals and lots more!

Who can volunteer?

Volunteering positions require varying skills levels. Anyone who is willing to learn and contribute their time can apply to volunteer. Most importantly, to volunteer you don't need to be an Australian citizen or permanent resident to volunteer.

Key information from the Australian Government Department of Immigration and Border Protection:

  • Conditions for Working While Studying - If you are doing voluntary, unpaid work, it is not included in the limit of 40 hours per fortnight if it:
    • is of benefit to the community
    • is for a nonprofit organisation
    • would not otherwise be undertaken in return for wages by an Australian resident (that is, it is a designated volunteer position), and
    • is genuinely voluntary (that is, no remuneration, either in cash or kind is received—board and lodging acceptable).
