These terms & conditions

  • Please read these terms and conditions carefully as they apply to your membership with Volunteering Queensland. By applying for or renewing your membership you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.
  • We may revise these terms and conditions from time to time by updating this posting. The revised terms will take effect when they are posted.

About membership with Volunteering Queensland

Membership with Volunteering Queensland provides many valuable and rewarding benefits that help maximise volunteer contribution to achieve missions, advance causes and improve Queensland’s well-being.

Financial membership options available include:

  • FULL: Not-for-profit, non-government organisations who have an interest in and/or are engaged in volunteering.
  • ASSOCIATE: Organisations who engage volunteers, but fall outside the category of not-for-profit, non-government (for example, Councils, government agencies, educational institutions and businesses).
  • LIFE: In recognition of an exemplary contribution to advancing and promoting volunteering (bestowed by Volunteering Queensland).

Terms & conditions of membership

  1. Membership is subject to approval by the Board of Volunteering Queensland in order to establish that the purpose of the applying organisation/individual in no way conflicts with its objectives. Volunteering Queensland reserves the right to make the final decision on admission to membership in accordance with its Constitution.
  2. The outcome of your membership application will be communicated to you within 5 business days or contact made with you for clarification.
  3. Membership is for 12 months, starting on the date that we confirm Board approval of your membership.
  4. Membership fees are not refundable (except if membership is not approved).
  5. All membership fees include GST.
  6. The Board of Volunteering Queensland may terminate an organisation’s membership in accordance with its Constitution.

Insurance

  • An organisation applying for or renewing their membership with Volunteering Queensland agrees that it is an independent organisation responsible for its own actions, including maintenance of both Public Liability and Volunteer Personal Accident insurances.
  • Volunteering Queensland reserves the right to request member organisations produce evidence of required insurances at any time. In addition, organisations agree to immediately inform Volunteering Queensland of any changes in the status of required insurance coverage

Promotion of member organisations

Your organisation agrees that Volunteering Queensland may list contact details of the organisation and available volunteer opportunities on Volunteering Queensland’s website volunteeringqld.org.au, through social media channels and for potential media opportunities.

Code of Practice for volunteer involving organisations

As a member of Volunteering Queensland, your organisation agrees to comply with the Code of practice for organisations involving volunteers and to have due regard (as far as is practicable) to the National Standards for Volunteer Involvement.

Definition & principles of volunteering

Members of Volunteering Queensland must adhere to the following definitions and principles.

Volunteering is an activity that can occur in any setting and has the following characteristics:

  • It has a direct benefit to the community and the volunteer (whether the benefit is tangible or intangible);
  • It is undertaken by choice;1 and
  • It is unpaid.2 However, the volunteer may receive reasonable or appropriate reimbursement for expenses incurred that are associated with the role, and/or may receive a monetary or other incentive/reward.3
  1. Choice is an act of selecting or making a decision when faced with two or more possibilities.
  2. The definition of a paid employee is set out in the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth).
  3. A direct monetary or other incentive/reward could include a tangible item such as a movie ticket or an enabling amount of money, for example a living allowance.
