Strengthen your volunteer program. Connect with your community. Shape the future of volunteering.

Launched in May 2025 in partnership with My Community Directory, the Queensland Volunteer Involving Organisation (VIO) Register is the first initiative of its kind—bringing together organisations across Queensland that involve, or want to involve, volunteers.

By joining the VIO Register, you become part of a growing statewide network working together to improve volunteer experiences and build stronger communities.

As part of this network, you gain access to an exclusive Volunteer Centre on My Community Directory providing you with local volunteering insights, practical tools, resources and powerful data to support your volunteer program.

Join the VIO Register today to unlock the Volunteer Centre and start elevating your volunteer program.

Volunteering Queensland has partnered with MCD to make the VIO Register possible.

My Community Directory is for community organisations that provide services and activities with a community benefit.

To join the VIO Register, you will first need to create a free MCD listing.

Now that your organisation is listed on My Community Directory, the next step is to complete your Volunteer Program Information. This will add you to the VIO Register and activate your access to the Volunteer Center.

Completing your Volunteer Program Information will only take 2 minutes, allowing you to share basic details about your volunteer program. Once completed you will unlock full access to the Volunteer Centre.

Congrats! You are now a part of the VIO Register giving you access to the Volunteer Centre where you can find valuable tools, resources and data. The Volunteer Centre will allow your organisation to:

Listen to your volunteers: Use the Voice of the Volunteer Survey to capture real feedback from your volunteers.

Turn feedback into action: Track survey results in a clear, easy-to-use dashboard so you can identify strengths, address challenges, and continuously improve your program.

Access practical resources: Explore curated tools and templates designed to support every stage of the Volunteer Involvement Lifecycle—from recruitment to retention.

Connect with local organisations: Find and collaborate with other volunteer-involving organisations in your area to share knowledge and strengthen your local volunteering network.

As an organisation, by becoming part of this register you will:

Become part of the largest network of volunteer involving organisations in Queensland.
Receive regular updates to stay connected and build the capacity of your volunteer programs, including free access to volunteer management resources and templates, funding and grant opportunities and training to upskill your volunteer managers.
Have your voice heard about your volunteering needs and ideas. Finding and keeping volunteers is getting harder and red tape is getting more tedious, so now more than ever we need to hear from every organisation no matter how big or small you are to know your challenges so we can advocate for you.
Share important information about your volunteering programs so we can direct support and advocacy to the areas who need it most across the State. Better information about the sector will improve advocacy for volunteers and VIOs.
Access the Voice of the Volunteer Survey, the first large-scale tool designed to measure and monitor the volunteer experience across the state.

As an organisation, by becoming part of this register you will:

A holistic view of volunteering in your LGA
Comprehensive list of volunteer involving organisations in your LGA
Trends, data and insights around volunteering to inform decision making.
Information to grow volunteering and ensure that your local volunteering ecosystem is meeting community need.
Access to the Voice of the Volunteer Survey, the first large-scale tool designed to measure and monitor the volunteer experience across the state.

The Voice of the Volunteer Survey is available to organisations who have joined the VIO Register. It is a free, practical tool empowering volunteer-involving organisations to better understand their volunteers, improve engagement, and strengthen the sustainability of their programs.

Spread the word about the VIO Register with organisations that involve volunteers or want to involve volunteers in your networks. We’ve developed a media pack along with various resources to help make it easy for you to spread the word.

This program is funded by the Department of Social Services through the Volunteering Management Activity.
