Key Responsibilities: The Eye Van Maintenance Support volunteer may be required to assist with: * General Maintenance Tasks * Carrying out basic upkeep of the van and trailer, including minor repairs, cleaning, and monitoring wear and tear. * Identifying maintenance issues and reporting them promptly to the Ophthalmic Coordinator. * Supporting the coordination of maintenance activities. * Contractor Liaison & Support * Communicating with contractors regarding scheduled works, servicing, inspections, or equipment installations. * Being present on-site to supervise or support contractor activities when required. * Ensuring all work is completed safely, accurately, and to the required standard. * Equipment Installation & Repairs * Assisting contractors with the installation of new clinical or operational equipment. * Supporting troubleshooting and small-scale repairs where appropriate (e.g., faulty fixtures, fittings, interior components). * Vehicle & Trailer Oversight * Providing informal consultation and advice regarding work carried out on the trailer and prime mover (in coordination with our transport partners). * Supporting inspection of mechanical or structural components where relevant. * Operational Readiness * Helping prepare the Eye Van for upcoming clinic runs (e.g., restocking consumables, checking fittings are secure, ensuring all equipment is in working order). * Assisting with pack-down or reset following clinics or transport days. * Perform additional tasks as assigned by the General Manager of Health Services **Qualifications and Experience** * Practical experience in maintenance, trades, mechanical work, or caravan/vehicle upkeep. * Ability to work independently and follow instructions from the Ophthalmic Coordinator. * Confidence liaising with contractors and understanding scope of works. * Reliable, punctual, and safety-focused. * Ability to lift or maneuver light to moderate items when assisting with equipment. * Commitment to the mission and values of St John Ambulance Queensland * Hold a current Blue Card – Working with Children (or ability to obtain one) * Hold a current Criminal History Check (or ability to obtain one) Come and make a difference apply today!
