Together, we can help our communities recover from disasters

During emergencies, we know that Queenslanders are eager to step up and help. Volunteers provide invaluable support to communities and organisations after emergencies.

You can be part of your community’s recovery from an emergency by becoming a spontaneous emergency volunteer with EV CREW. Being a spontaneous emergency volunteer means there is no commitment, you can offer to volunteer when you’re available and interested.

What is EV CREW?

EV CREW stands for Emergency Volunteering Community Response to Extreme Weather. EV CREW is a Volunteering Queensland program designed to bring together volunteers and local community organisations to help communities recover after disasters.

EV CREW is for everyday Queenslanders who want to offer support in their neighbourhood and community. Unlike SES volunteers, you don’t need to have any special skills or undertake rigorous training to join EV CREW. If you’re simply keen to support your neighbours and community recover from a disaster, you can be a spontaneous emergency volunteer.

Since the EV CREW service began in 2008, Volunteering Queensland has connected 46,000 volunteers to over 200 organisations to support with disaster recovery efforts.

First response to emergency

Emergency Services and SES volunteers are the first to respond to emergencies, including floods, fires and other extreme weather events. They are highly trained for emergency response and have the right equipment to handle dangerous situations.

Recovery begins

Once response activities have been completed and affected areas are deemed safe to return to, organisations may then assess the need for community volunteers to assist with recovery activities.

Community volunteer opportunities become available

Organisations requiring community volunteers will submit their volunteer opportunities to the volunteer disaster platform. We will contact you if there are emergency volunteer opportunities in your area.

Sign up for an opportunity

You can sign up for the volunteer opportunities in your community that you are available for and interested in.

Volunteer shift confirmation

You will receive an email confirming your interest in a volunteer shift. Your details will be shared with the organisation running the volunteer opportunity.

Briefing

It’s almost go time! The organisation running the opportunity may organise an orientation or briefing on the day of your volunteer shift or before to ensure you feel safe, understand your responsibilities, and know who to go to if you need help or have questions.

Time to volunteer!
