The Mission to Seafarers provides a "home away from home" for International Seafarers 365 days a year. Seafarers are crew that come into the Port of Brisbane on cargo ships.They are often on a ship for a 9 month contract and have limited shore leave, not to mention that they do not see their families and loved ones in this time.
We pick up the Seafarers, through our free bus service, and take them to the Mission and also to Wynnum Plaza and Wynnum North Train Station. The Mission offers a relaxing atmosphere with peaceful garden area, pool tables, ping pong table, television, a small shop, a Chapel, free Internet, clothing, beanies, books, magazines and Bibles.
The Mission is run primarily by our wonderful team of Volunteers. They enjoy interacting with the Seafarers, who are from many varied backgrounds, and it is also an opportunity to help these people and form friendships with the other Volunteers.
If you have some spare time and would like to make a difference to the lives of the Seafarers, all you need is a friendly smile and a warm heart. A current Driver's Licence is required to drive our mini buses and some cash register experience would be handy, but not essential, if you wish to work in the shop.
