Minimum stay three weeks. You work 3.5 days each week. Days are long, from dawn to dusk, but the happy smiling faces of the animals around you will make it all worth it. Duties include daily cleaning of barns and coops, feeding, health checks, light maintenance work, monitoring herd movements and intensive care of ill, old and baby animals. Extra duties may be required when new there are new rescues or infants. This is a responsible role. You will be provided with specific requirements and care standards and your work will be monitored regularly. Only those with a deep desire to care for animals should apply. Free accommodation The bunk house is basic, but the kitchen is fitted out with everything you need and there is a living area. Accommodation is dormitory style. It's the responsibility of volunteers to clean and tidy the bungalow. Volunteers receive a food reimbursement of $10 a day with receipts.. No experience is necessary as full training will be given. The bunk house features a bathroom with a shower running hot and cold water, living room, kitchen and a small back yard. You will share a dormitory room with other people and will share the bunk house with five other people in total. A TV is provided along with a wood fire (you will need to chop wood if you want to stay warm!). Free wifi and netflix is provided and a swimming pool is also available. The farm is 1km from the village of Dayboro, which has 6 cafes and a pub. There is no public transport to Dayboro, but we can collect you from Petrie Railway station on your arrival and departure days. Conditions of the role The farm is vegan. Animal products are not permitted to be brought into, or stored in, the volunteer accommodation. The Australian Government does not allow us to authorise second-year Working Holiday Visas. You should not apply for this position if you are scared of large animals, don't want to clean up poop, or if you are subject to feeling lonely or homesick. Working around farm animals is heavy, dirty and tiring work and requires strength and stamina. Working with large animals is not without danger but the sanctuary has policies in place so that you are insured against workplace accidents. Your safety is primarily your responsibility, you must follow our safety procedures or else you will place yourself at risk. If short-listed you may be required to spend a day with one of our current volunteers, so that your abilities can be evaluated.
