Register your volunteer opportunity
If your organisation requires volunteers for disaster recovery activities in your community, you can register your volunteer opportunities with us on our Disaster Volunteer Platform.
During emergencies, we know that Queenslanders are eager to step up and help. Volunteers provide invaluable support to people, community groups and organisations following an emergency.
If your organisation requires volunteer support in the recovery from an emergency, we can connect you with spontaneous emergency volunteers in your community.
If your organisation requires volunteers for disaster recovery activities in your community, you can register your volunteer opportunities with us on our Disaster Volunteer Platform.
We will advertise your opportunities to our EV CREW volunteers in the communities they are needed, coordinate volunteer registrations, and provide you with a list of volunteers ahead of your volunteer activity.
You will be required to manage the volunteers on the ground during your volunteer activity and ensure they are provided with a briefing before the activity begins.
EV CREW stands for Emergency Volunteering Community Response to Extreme Weather. EV CREW, led by Volunteering Queensland, is made up of everyday Queenslanders who want to offer support in their community after a disaster.
EV CREW comes into action after Emergency Services and SES volunteers have completed the first response to a disaster like a flood, fire, cyclone or severe storm.
Unlike SES volunteers, EV CREW volunteers don’t need to have any special skills or undertake rigorous training. EV CREW is for people who are simply keen to support their neighbours and community recover from a disaster.
Through EV CREW, Volunteering Queensland connects people who are keen to lend a helping hand with councils and community organisations running disaster recovery activities. Since the EV CREW service began in 2008, we’ve connected 46,000 volunteers to over 200 organisations to support with disaster recovery efforts.
Activities suitable for spontaneous emergency volunteers include:
Sorting clothing, blanket or goods donations
Gardening, removing branches and debris, helping rebuild fences
Transporting families or delivering food and medicines to families
Assisting with information desks, answering phones, and directing the public
Preparing food for affected families or emergency response teams
Providing care and support for animals affected by disaster
