Part 2: 11 June 2026

Online format

Learning Lab is a series of curated professional development opportunities designed to provide volunteer-involving organisations with practical, best-practice frameworks and deeper insights into current issues and sector needs.

Each series focuses on building core capabilities through expert-led, interactive sessions, equipping volunteer leaders with the tools they need to strengthen their programs and lead with purpose.

Series Three will enhance volunteer leaders’ ability to create meaningful, motivating experiences that deepen volunteer engagement, foster strong connections, and inspire ongoing commitment through authentic leadership and effective feedback.

Leadership for Lasting Volunteer Connection.

This two-part online series is designed to help volunteer leaders build stronger, more motivated teams through effective engagement and feedback strategies.

Ideal for volunteer managers, coordinators, and leaders seeking practical tools to motivate, connect, and retain their volunteer teams.

Tuesday 5 May, 9.30am-11.00am

Join Dr Toby Newstead, a leadership scholar from the University of Tasmania specialising in virtues-based leadership, ethics, and volunteer sector leadership. Drawing from recent research and insights presented at Volunteering Queensland’s annual conference, Dr Newstead will guide you through proven leadership practices and key motivators to help you check in meaningfully, allocate resources wisely, and sustain your volunteer program without over-promising.

This series is hosted by Volunteering Queensland in partnership with the University of Tasmania, and Dr Toby Newstead.

Thursday 11 June, 10am-11.30am

Hear from Bhavna Sawnani, Research Director with Ipsos’s Employee Experience team, as she guides you through how to confidently use Volunteering Queensland’s Voice of the Volunteer survey dashboard and translate insights into action. You’ve surveyed your volunteers – now what? Learn how to interpret results, prioritise focus areas, facilitate feedback conversations and workshops, and close the loop in ways that build trust and connection.

This series is hosted by Volunteering Queensland in partnership Bhavna Sawnani, Research Director with Ispos’s Employee Experience team.
