On Saturday 27 September 2025, the small town of Marburg came alive with the irresistible aroma of freshly baked cakes, slices, and preserves for the annual Great Marburg Bake Off. What began as a friendly competition has now grown into one of the region’s most anticipated community events, a day that celebrates local talent, creativity, and togetherness, and it is entirely run by volunteers.

From early morning, tables filled with cakes, slices, biscuits and jams lined two halls. The quality and presentation were outstanding, with bakers of all ages showcasing recipes handed down through generations or bold new flavour combinations. Alongside the baking, the “Let Them Art Cake” exhibition displayed cake-inspired artworks, bringing colour and imagination to the day.

Adding to the festive atmosphere was the unforgettable music of the Amberley Brass Brigade, whose lively performance filled the air and set the perfect rhythm for the day. Their classic tunes brought smiles and even a little dancing among the crowd. Later, the spotlight turned to the Mayfair Pole Dancing Group.

As the afternoon drew to a close, winners were announced and celebrated, but the true spirit of the Bake Off was seen in the joy of community: families laughing together, friends catching up over scones and tea, and visitors discovering the warm welcome that Marburg is known for.

This year’s Bake Off was more than a competition. It was a day where baking, art, music, and performance came together to create something special, a reminder that the heart of Marburg beats strongest when its community gathers.
