No one plans this life for themselves, nor do they plan on the complex range of issues that led them to this point.
Each year, Brisbane City Council and Volunteering Queensland join forces with some very special volunteers to run Homeless Connect. This important one-day event links people experiencing homelessness with vital services.
Homeless guests can access a wealth of services in a one-stop-shop environment including employment, legal, government and other services. Guests can have a haircut, get a health check or learn about housing options.
There is also a donations room where guests will find clothes, food, bedding, toiletries and much more.
The next Homeless Connect is scheduled for Thursday 20 May, 2021 at the Brisbane Showgrounds.
Share your expertise
It has been said the real test of a community is how it treats its most vulnerable citizens. Come together and help your local Brisbane community. Express your interest in volunteering for Homeless Connect.
We are currently still looking for professionals who are willing to share their special skills with those less fortunate at Homeless Connect on Thursday 20 May, 2021. Doctors, dental nurses, podiatrists, massage therapists, hairdressers and more will be welcomed.
Volunteers who assisted at past Homeless Connect events found it a rewarding experience. To date we've helped more than 20,000 people to connect with services that would have otherwise been out of reach.
Registrations for Homeless Connect
General Registrations for Homeless Connect are now closed. We are sorry if you missed out on helping this time around. Please check back later in the year for details on the next Homeless Connect.
Announcement from Brisbane City Council
Brisbane City Council wishes to advise that the Homeless Connect event planned for the 14 May 2020 will not be able to go ahead as planned due to the Federal Government’s directive on limiting non-essential mass gatherings to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Council will be looking to hold the event at a date later in the year once advice is received from the Federal Government that gatherings are safe and able to resume.
Council is continuing to support people who are homeless or at risk of homeless via a number of other initiatives.
Residents may wish to consider making a donation to one of the following charities.
- Foodbank Queensland
- Australian Red Cross
- Micah Projects Ltd – Home for Good
- Wesley Mission Queensland
- Oz Harvest Brisbane
- Communify Qld
Council is working closely with Queensland Health and the Federal Government and will continue to be guided by these agencies on all matters of public health.
