Hugh Mackay AO

Hugh Mackay
Australian Psychologist | Social Researcher | Writer

Hugh Mackay is a social psychologist and the bestselling author of 22 books, including eight novels. His latest book, The Kindness Revolution, was published in 2021.

Hugh has had a 60-year career in social research and was also a weekly newspaper columnist for over 25 years. He is currently an honorary professor in the Research School of Psychology at ANU, and a patron of the Asylum Seekers Centre. Among other honorary appointments, he has been deputy chairman of the Australia Council for the Arts, the inaugural chairman of the ACT government’s Community Inclusion Board and an honorary professor at Macquarie, Wollongong and Charles Sturt universities.

Hugh is a Fellow of the Australian Psychological Society and the Royal Society of NSW. In recognition of his pioneering work in social research, he has been awarded honorary doctorates by Charles Sturt, Macquarie, NSW, Western Sydney and Wollongong universities. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in 2015.

Aaron Williams AMHSW is CEO and Co-Founder of Mindstar, a leading national well-being and mental health organisation. With a passionate and light-hearted approach, Aaron uses story-telling, and his clinical insight as a mental health professional, to teach audiences about resilience, rediscovering joy and living a more balanced “mentally healthy” life.


DJ Cronin

Volunteer Experience Manager at UnitingCare

DJ Cronin is the Volunteer Experience Manager at UnitingCare where he shares his expertise in Volunteer leadership, governance, policies, and principles as well as strategy and development.

DJ has delivered presentations for various groups across Australia and is a current member of the International Association of Volunteer Effort, The United Nations Association in Australia and sits on the Volunteer Management Working Group and Core Design Group assisting Volunteering Australia to develop the new National Volunteering Strategy. DJ is trained in “Dare to Lead’ which equips him with the skills, practices, and tools that underpin the four skill sets of courage: Rumbling with Vulnerability, Living into Our Values, Braving Trust, and Learning to Rise.


Ryan Salzke

Chief Operating Officer at Orange Sky

Ryan is passionate about ensuring his multi-sector leadership experience, operational management skills, strong interpersonal approach and values-driven work ethic helps organisations and their staff fully realise their potential, achieve their mission and be a leading provider of human services.

Orange Sky provides free washing, warm showers and genuine connection across Australia and New Zealand on over 300 shifts every week. We believe every single one of the 117,000 people experiencing homelessness deserves access to these services and it’s my role to help us to continue to grow and help more of our friends doing it tough.


Nathan Hulls

Youth Motivational Speaker

Nathan Hulls is one of Australia’s leading Youth Motivational Speakers and specialises in training and development for students and adults in the areas of performance psychology, positive education, emotional intelligence, motivation and engagement.   He is a certified social and emotional intelligence coach and trainer and practitioner of neuro-linguistics.

Over the past 24 years Nathan has spoken regularly in schools, youth groups, camps, conferences and forums across Australia and Internationally. In 2018 he was asked to be the keynote speaker at the Middle East Youth Expo in Abu Dhabi and is passionate about inspiring young people to dream bigger dreams and to back themselves, all the while teaching the power of right choices, attitude and character, leaving them with tools to transform their lives and the world around them.  


Stephanie Melcer

Cancer Council Queensland Youth Volunteer

Stephanie Melcer is an ambitious 21 year-old and the Recruitment Coordinator in Cancer Council Queensland’s People (Employment) team. Stephanie began her volunteering journey with Cancer Council Queensland as an intern in April 2022, where she worked alongside the Volunteer Recruitment team, and assisted the Employment (Recruitment) team.

As Stephanie also studies a Bachelor of Business degree, majoring in International Business and Human Resource Management, her volunteer experience with Cancer Council Queensland has been essential in developing her skills and kickstarting her professional career.
