About the VMA Cert IV Educational Scholarship

Objectives

The Regional and Remote Volunteer Manager Educational Scholarship is designed to support the professional development of volunteer coordinators/managers by funding the educational costs associated with completing the Certificate IV in Coordination of Volunteer Programs. This scholarship will enable volunteer coordinators/managers in organisations to strengthen their volunteer programs and improve the overall volunteering experience.

The objective is to build volunteer management capability and support alignment with the strategic objectives of the National Standards for Volunteer Involvement and the National Strategy for Volunteering in organisations by:

  • promoting best practices in volunteer leadership
  • ensuring volunteer programs are effectively managed, and
  • enhancing the overall volunteer experience.

It also supports the strategic priorities of the National Strategy for Volunteering, reinforcing efforts to build a sustainable and resilient volunteer sector.

Eligibility

  1. The Regional and Remote Volunteer Manager Educational Scholarship is aimed at Volunteer Coordinators/Managers who are:
    Located in regional and remote areas of Queensland
  2. Candidates must be currently working in a role (paid or unpaid) as Volunteer Coordinator/Manager or equivalent position with responsibilities for coordinating volunteers within a program or organisation.

    Requirement:
    Applicants must provide a letter of employment and a copy of their position description on the organisation’s official letterhead.
    OR
    If you are currently volunteering as a Volunteer Coordinator/Manager, a letter outlining details of your role, the duration of your service, and the total number of hours volunteered. Additionally, please include a copy of your position description.
  3. Candidate must be 18 years of age or older.
  4. The volunteer program you currently coordinate/manage must support one or more of the following:
    • Young people 12 to 18 years who are disengaged, or at risk of disengaging, from education to reconnect with their community, school, training and/or employment opportunities.
    • People with disabilities and/or mental health conditions to actively participate in the community while building independence and engaging meaningfully in the economy and society.
    • Women who experience or are at risk of experiencing isolation or discrimination to engage in their community and the economy, fostering self-agency and inclusion.
    • People who are unemployed to increase participation in their community and/or increase their capacity to engage in employment, training, or existing employment services.
  5. Candidates must be at the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Level 4 for this qualification. At this level students are expected to:
    • complete a Pre-Training Review, meet the Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skill standards for Certificate IV level study and demonstrate that they are a suitable candidate for this course.
    • have sufficient digital literacy skills to access online content, enter answers to written questions and communicate with trainers via email, and the learning management system.
    • have experience in problem-solving, decision-making, and volunteer management responsibilities.
  6. All candidates require a Unique Student Identification (USI) number. If you do not have a USI number, you can apply for one online at https://www.usi.gov.au/students.
  7. The course includes online technology, and participants need to have access to the following technology:
    • Computer with compatible operating system (Windows or Mac)
    • Printer
    • Current web browser (Chrome, Safari, or Firefox)
    • Email address and stable internet connection access
    • Microsoft Office – including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
    • Adobe Reader
    • Assistive technology and software if required for accessibility
