Volunteering Queensland supports disaster recovery efforts by bringing together volunteers and local community organisations in the recovery phase.
EV CREW volunteers are only involved in recovery activities after specialist teams like SES have undertaken disaster response activities.
The Disaster Volunteer Platform enables organisations to register volunteer opportunities, which are then made visible in a calendar for EV CREW volunteers to see and sign-up for.
A disaster has been formally declared in Northern Queensland due to severe flooding. The region has experienced significant rainfall, leading to widespread flooding and damage, including the loss of cattle and infrastructure. The Queensland and Commonwealth governments have activated disaster recovery funding arrangements to assist affected councils.
A tropical low is forecast to move from the Coral Sea towards the Far North QLD coast over the next few days, then inland over the weekend. A severe weather warning and possible Tropical Cyclone with heavy rainfall and damaging winds has been issued for parts of the North Tropical Coast from north of Hope Vale all the way south to Hamilton Island

Volunteering Queensland sits on a number of disaster management committee groups and works with key agencies to respond to disasters throughout Queensland. Once a disaster is declared, SES and those key agencies will respond with their expertise. In the recovery phase, after the initial response and once the area and yourselves are safe, that’s where EV CREW can help you connect with volunteers in your community for recovery activities. This is typically two or three weeks after the disaster concludes.
If you are an organisation or council requiring volunteers for recovery activities in your community, you can submit your volunteer opportunities by clicking on the red button below. Our team will connect with you to discuss your opportunity further.
Your volunteer opportunities need to be submitted at least two weeks before the volunteer opportunity is due to take place. This ensures we have time to advertise your opportunity and for volunteers to make themselves available.
We will advertise your opportunities to our EV CREW volunteers in the communities they are needed, coordinate volunteer registrations, and provide you with a list of volunteers ahead of your volunteer activity. You will be required to manage the volunteers on the ground during your volunteer activity and ensure they are provided with a briefing before the activity begins.
All volunteers who are registered with EV CREW and rostered for a volunteer opportunity during a formal disaster activation are covered for personal injury under Queensland Government Work Cover.
