Homeless Connect November 2021 Wrap Up
Brisbane City Council and Volunteering Queensland joined forces once again to deliver another successful Homeless Connect. It was an inspiring event that connected vulnerable members of the community to vital services while also providing a fun day out with music, food and genuine human connection.
The event would not be possible without the generous support of over 300 volunteers, all of whom made a real difference.
We welcomed over 660 guests and connected them to medical an allied health volunteer teams such as podiatrists, dentists, optometrists, doctors, nurses, chiropractic and physio students, immunisation staff and Queensland Ambulance Services who demonstrated CPR.
There were 281 medical appointments provided which also included administering Covid-19 vaccines. This is an additional 85 appointments compared to the May 2021 event.
The hairdresser/barber area was busy this November with 178 transformative haircuts provided by volunteer hairdressers and barbers.
There were 17 pallets of donated food/toiletries, 16 pallets of clothing/shoes and 1569 meals were provided to guests and volunteers. All areas of the event were run by volunteers.
Other volunteer roles included setting up on bump-in day, sorting donations, packaging food, welcoming guests, administering appointments, performing live entertainment, cloaking bags, supporting other volunteers and so much more.
All up volunteers generously provided over 2200 hours. What an excellent team effort!
We look forward to the next Homeless Connect in 2022! Keep an eye on our Homeless Connect webpage to keep updated. Want to explore the photos from the event?
