National Student Volunteer Week (NSVW) is an opportunity to acknowledge the impact that student volunteers make through volunteering.
Coordinated and delivered nationally by Volunteering Queensland since 2013 and supported by Volunteering Australia and all State and Territory Peak volunteering bodies, National Student Volunteer Week 2021 (#NSVW21) acknowledges and celebrates student volunteers, and promotes volunteering to students and young people across Australia.
This year National Student Volunteer Week was 9 – 15 August 2021.
We invite all education providers, volunteer organisations and students across the country to participate National Student Volunteer Week. In 2021 all participants will have access to resources to assist with planning and executing volunteering activities as well as volunteer promoting events and campaigns.
National Student Volunteer Week empowers students and young people to rise up and participate in their local communities. The connection gained provides students with a sense of belonging and ownership, whilst developing leadership and empathy skills.
Together, we aim to
- Celebrate, promote and support student volunteering
- Empowering young people to discuss and innovate their introduction to, and journey through volunteering
- Strengthen relationships between the education, youth and non-profit sectors
- Build a mighty new generation of volunteers to uplift our communities.
The Australian NSVW concept was borne at Volunteering Queensland’s university roundtable which brought together key academics, researchers and community engagement managers from universities across Queensland. Universities involved included Bond University, CQ University, Griffith University, Queensland University of Technology, and University of Queensland.
The idea was that engagement in the community during the academic years was an excellent way to build connection, grow confidence, give students valuable skills and work experience, and have a lot of fun. Thus in 2013, Volunteering Queensland launched the first National Student Volunteer Week and the concept has gone from strength to strength year on year since. Now in its 9th year, we want to make this the biggest and best celebration yet!
From the bottom of our hearts, we would like to give a big thank you to every person and organisation who contributed to #NSVW21, no matter how big or small, and made it such a fun and meaningful week!
If you have any feedback you would like to give us for next National Student Volunteer Week, we would love to hear it so we can make #NSVW22 even bigger and better.
