Volunteering Queensland has been involved in consultations regarding proposed reforms to the regulations relating to people who work with children – commonly known as the Blue Card.
The proposed reforms flow on from recommendations from the Royal Commission into Child Abuse and other inquiries. Volunteering Queensland provided a short submission to the Queensland Government Department of Justice and Attorney-General. The submission was mainly focused on supporting moves to maintain the primary goal of protecting children while creating more consistency in the rules around Blue Cards across States and Territories and to remove unnecessary bureaucracy and barriers to volunteer participation in community activities.
