About this opportunity

Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation is a not for profit organisation and registered charity, supporting kids living in families affected by mental illness. The program provides recreational, educational camps and other activities, giving kids a break, in a fun, positive and safe environment. Kids have the opportunity to meet other kids in similar situations and develop new friendships.

The Role
Kookaburra Kids are seeking enthusiastic volunteer camp leaders to attend Kookaburra Kids weekend camps in QLD. Kookaburra Kids has 3 camps in 2018 being held on the Sunshine Coast for kids from 8-18yrs of age. Weekend camps run from Friday evening through to Sunday afternoon.

We are looking for adults over the age of 21 from all walks of life. Camp Leaders do not have to have any experience in mental health but are required to undertake the Kookaburra Kids volunteer screening process as well as Kookaburra Kids induction training. The role would suit an individual who has a passion for the Kookaburra Kids cause, who is reliable, energetic and has the ability to relate to kids and have fun! The main goal of a camp leader is support kids to be in kids in an environment that they feel safe and secure.

Responsibilities
- Attend Kookaburra Kids weekend camps (be available from Friday evening through till Sunday afternoon)
- Provide support to kids whilst on weekend camps including supervising an allocated group of campers for the duration of the camp weekend
- Supporting kids to engage in education programs whilst on camp to learn about Mental Illness, coping skills and to build resilience.
- Willingness to share accommodation with campers
- Work as part of a team with the common goal of letting kids be kids and have a great time whilst on camp. (Don't be afraid to channel your inner child………Have fun and be silly!)
- Willingness to commit to at least 2 camps/activities within a 12-month period

Before you have any face to face work with our Kookaburra Kids all WWCC and Police Checks will need to be cleared.
