COVID-19 for volunteers: Visit our blog for information to help keep you and your community safe, along with opportunities for you to support others. Unfortunately, we cannot see you in person at our Brisbane, Wynnum or Logan offices at this time, as we have suspended all face to face services until further notice. However, we are still here to help. Please search our website to find out more about volunteering, or contact us on email helpdesk@volunteeringqld.org.au or call 3002 7600.
We will update our blog as more information becomes available. We encourage you to follow the latest advice on the Queensland Health website.

About this opportunity

QSHBA is a volunteer-run not-for-profit group that is very active in the community, with 4 permanent performance bands: the Queensland Mounted Infantry Historical Troop Band, the Queensland Show Band, the Bayside Youth Band and QSHBA Drum Corps. Our bands perform regularly at community events including ANZAC Day services, Bayside Carols, Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers and tours of RSLs and residential care homes.

With current volunteers focused on teaching and performance roles, we need 1 or more volunteers to help bring more money in by writing (hopefully successful) grants to enable us to continue sharing our love of music far and wide.

The main activity times at our office are Monday afternoons and evenings, and Tuesday afternoons. However, much of the work can be done at times that suit the volunteer.

Volunteers will have an opportunity to strengthen their grant writing skills, learn more about Queensland's musical history and contribute to a group that supports the broader community.

Good for

  • Centrelink Volunteers
  • Online & Remote Volunteers
  • Skilled Volunteers
  • Wheelchair Access

Additional requirements

  • National Police Certificate*
  • Working with Children Check*

Excellent written communication skills and a flair for selling the benefits we provide the community to in the format preferred by various funding bodies is required.

Organisation skills and attention to detail are needed to keep track of deadlines and ensure submissions are filled in accurately and on time.

While some of the work could be done on a project basis, we have a preference for one or more long term volunteers, who can use the skills gained from one grant application to improve the likelihood of success for the next.

* May be arranged by the organisation. Details will be provided after you express your interest.

Time required

Variable - our band room is open on Monday afternoons and evenings, and Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, but the volunteer can mostly manage their own schedules as long as applications are completed on time. This role could be performed by multiple volunteers, depending on interest and availability.
