About this opportunity

Arthritis Queensland is an organization that aims to improve the lives of people with arthritis, endeavouring to help people learn how to better manage the condition. We run three online support groups for those facing the challenges of life with arthritis.

We are seeking empathetic peer-mentors to provide one-to-one peer support to people living with arthritis via our telephone support network: Arthritis Assist. Volunteers are matched with Arthritis Assist Participants who share similar experiences, to offer support via regular phone calls. Volunteers would be trained, supported and supplied with the information, resources and support necessary to provide telephone support.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Phone Participants and start open discussions about your arthritis experience and issues of concern.
  • Emotionally supporting Participants by listening, asking appropriate questions, providing peer support and information as needed.
  • Remaining informed of the information, resources and services offered by Arthritis Queensland and other relevant services, and how they can be accessed when needed by Participants.
  • Referring the participant onto their healthcare team for questions or concerns related to their arthritis treatments and medical management. In return, volunteers can gain benefits including:
  • Opportunity to use personal experience to help others living with arthritis.
  • Further developing your own knowledge of arthritis and ways to support others.
  • Building upon your communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Joining a vibrant team of staff and volunteers and feel a sense of achievement each day knowing you are making a difference.
